phpBB disable-spambots MOD This mod ensures that anyone posting has actually submitted through the comment form, and that the form is at least five seconds old before it's submitted. If either of these conditions is not met, the submit is turned into a preview, so spambots will still think they have posted successfully and humans will be given another chance (in the event that, for example, their IP address changed between loading the form and submitting it). [from the mod file]
phpBB Instant Ban - Spam Bots registration [MOD for the phpBB forums to block the Russian spammers who started mass registering at the beginning of September to get their urls into the memberlist which is visible to Google, their goal is higher page rank for their spam sites. This MOD removes the www and sig fields in the registration form and any spammer directly submitting registrations thru GET or POST with a www or sig field input will get automatically banned. Valid new members will be able to enter a sig and www url after ten posts. (The shorter version removes only the www field and allows users to immediately edit their profile after registration and enter a url.) -- alice ttlg]

[Technical anti-spam list, posters are primarily network admins, both small, medium and large (AOL's abuse dept head posts there), some of the discussion is very technical about the specifics of mail server programs, etc., some is more general about how to deal with and cut off spammers and viruses being used by spammers. List culture is old school usenet, no top-posting replies and be prepared to be checked out six ways to Sunday the first time you post as they keep an eye out for spammers trolling the list -- alice ttlg]
